Destination Concepts noticed our attention to detail at Solomon Group in past scenery-heavy experiences including the 2013 Super Bowl and 2014 NBA All-Star Bud Light District, and they knew we were the agency to call on when a wedding client wanted to bring New Orleans to their on-property wedding in Michigan.
I designed over 180' of 2 story French Quarter facade using a componentized facade system to rapidly fabricate all of the properties without making any two "buildings" the same. After laying out the scenic footprint and checking the elevations against the structure of the tent, I designed a dazzling and complex stair system fitting for the wedding party's entrance and first dance. Then came the dreamlike lighting design, bringing the scenery to life by mixing moody front lighting with warm incandescent tones glowing from behind.
Now that the mood was set, it was time to focus on the small details to tangibly elevate the space; A custom guest nametag pickup wall, beautifully crafted bars and bar backs, and organic decor aplenty. The final piece was the intimate performance stage for Natalie Cole, carrying the theme beyond the tent with a large printed muslin cyclorama.
